Our mission:

Word Conscious provides training materials in workplace writing for any professional seeking new heights in their professional development. We believe every person has a unique voice that deserves to be heard, and that good writing relies both on skill and self-confidence: two areas that can be improved through regular practice and knowledgeable support.

Meet Nasim

With a B.S. in Professional Writing and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Nasim has nearly a decade’s worth of experience writing for publications both under her own name and as a ghostwriter. An engineering manager in the manufacturing industry by day, she also works as a freelance editor for journalists and novelists, and a technical and marketing copywriter.

She has written for several entertainment publications and production companies, and co-founded The Young Writers’ Endeavor. Her manufacturing research is published on IEEE. With experience collaborating with teams in the United States, Paraguay, Lithuania, Tanzania, and Thailand, Nasim brings her dynamic career path, management experience, and writing skills honed across several industries and cultures to Word Conscious.

Meet Heidi

Heidi Haug is an entrepreneur and freelance writer. A stay at home mom pursuing a career in the legal field, she discovered a love for research and technical writing through her freelance work and years of study in business and design. She grew up in a household where each parent owned a small business, and was involved in the inner workings of entrepreneurship from a very young age. Prior to becoming a mom, Heidi worked in various fields such as retail, music education, and grant writing—gaining experience with many different forms of professional communication that shaped the strong understanding of workplace etiquette and communication that she brings to the Word Conscious portfolio.

Creating Word Conscious

Nasim and Heidi are second cousins, but grew up on opposite ends of the Americas. After years of hearing about each other’s life over social media, fate brought them together in the Boston area in 2022 and reinforced their familial bond with a beautiful friendship and a powerful business idea.

Between Nasim’s experience in writing, management and education, and Heidi’s business, design and communication expertise, they put their skills together to create Word Conscious: a resource for professionals aspiring to make writing their easiest and most effective tool at work.

Our Values

We believe in mutual empowerment.

Every individual has unique insights and talents within them, which education can help bring to light. We help you learn, but we also learn from your unique perspectives, which in turn help us empower others on their professional journey.

We’re driven.

We’re go-getters, and we love meeting fellow go-getters. We set goals and do whatever it takes to meet them. We believe in your dream and will help you get there!

We’re multicultural.

We’re East Coast and West Coast; we’re Latina, Middle-Eastern, and White; we’re American and of the wider world. We take into account a variety of cultural perspectives and help you navigate cultural workplace confusion, taking into account the hurdles many workers still face due to implicit bias.

We’re women.

Through our own experience or that of our friends and clients, we are familiar with the struggles faced by many women and non-binary people, especially when it comes to workplace communication and the ways in which it continues to be gendered.

We don’t believe in the separation of art and tech.

No matter what field you’re in, you need to be able to write. We don’t stand by a dichotomy between arts and tech: we’ve studied both, and we use both in everything we do—especially in writing.
